The Path from Soul to Pain

Hello and welcome to this extended primer.

As part of my journey through life so far, I spent many a long year trying to comprehend the meaning and purpose of my existence. I believe I now have some answers and wish to share some of them with you.

What is presented here is actually my understanding of the eternal question: "what is the meaning (or purpose) of life"?

Please accept that what is written here is based purely on my experience and research. The ideas are entirely my own (except the document "the ten rules for being human") and I accept full responsibility for the content.

The Path concept may be accurate, or it might not be - but it does make sense to me, and all I ask of you is to keep an open mind. If this document does not sit comfortably with you, then that is OK (it really is). After all, some of the ideas presented here severely contradict existing and well established understandings. It is my truth.

If you use this primer with the intention of better understanding yourself, then every section is a goldmine; every described principle a treasure. At all times, I ask only that you use these ideas within the context of your own situation.

ENJOY!

The Path from Soul to Pain - an overview:

There is a well defined path between the Soul and the pain people suffer. It goes something like this:

* The Soul wishes to experience something it cannot achieve in its own realm. So it creates a human form which it then immediately inhabits. At conception, the new human-to-be is pure love - absolute perfection.

* A Blueprint called "Life's Purpose" is all it brings with it into this lifetime. Possibilities, not outcomes for what it hopes to experience, resolve or learn.

* From the moment of conception, the Soul creates situations whereby this blueprint is enacted. The emotions perform this function. Whatever the intended experience, the feelings so generated will be the exact opposite to that desired. This is the only practical way it can gain the necessary learning.

* Up until the age of about 7, all thoughts and feelings are simply rolled into one. Therefore, to a young child a perceived threat is just as real as if it actually took place. Any unresolved feelings during that period will be stored within the subtle anatomy as energy forms. Eventually, those energy forms will grow and block the chakras (and thus assist the dis-ease process). The mind is also affected by these energy forms by defining our behavior, attitudes, beliefs, etc. It is our emotions that drive us. The perfect manifestation of Life's Purpose.

* The mind also creates "dis-ease" and other bodily dys-function under direction of the emotions. Where the pain originates and how it manifests provides powerful clues as to the lesson(s) involved. After all, there is nothing quite like a bit of pain to force attention on the problem. But pain is only a messenger - telling you something is out of balance. Ignoring or suppressing pain just invites more pain to manifest.

* All stages provide direct feedback to the Soul (technically, a closed loop exists). Any lesson learned early in the process is unlikely to create problems at the bodily stage. Things get progressively harder the more they are ignored. It is only when all the checks and balances are ignored, that the body is dis-eased.

* This model also applies universally to families, communities, cities and even entire countries. Each group has its own criteria, unique conditions, and agenda.

* Pain can be at any level: spiritual, emotional, mental or physical.

For many a long year (well, since 1973) I struggled to find the link between dis-ease / illness / pain / dys-function and the ultimate "cause". It only occurred to me in February 2001 that I had the answer all along. It's just that I hadn't chunked it up high enough (i.e. broadened out my thinking). This diagram is my attempt to portray the concept in visual terms. But be warned - it is far more complex than first appearances dictate. So bear with me please as we explore some of its salient qualities.

THE HOLISTIC APPROACH TO LIFE:
I will say outright that the diagram makes absolute sense to me, and people I show it to say it makes sense to them (in their own unique way). In a very simple way (I like simplicity) it encompasses the holistic concept of SPIRIT, EMOTION, MIND, and PHYSICAL. It also shows the path from Soul to Physical, and the crucial "feedback" path directly back to the Soul. It neatly ties in the "lessons" concept found at the conclusion of this primer and also shows how things get progressively harder (i.e. further into pain) the more we ignore them. And it makes sense of life itself. As you read through the text, more and more facets will reveal themselves.
OK, now the hard part. How does it work?

SOUL LEVEL:
Starting at the Soul level, you need to accept that the Soul is immortal i.e. has always been, and always will be. For the purpose of this discussion what has gone before (past lives) and what has yet to transpire (future lives) are not actually important. In other words, the only thing that really matters is this particular lifetime. Towards the end of the primer we will explore the possibility of past life influences - to clarify an important point.

You also need to accept that your Soul is the "real" you, not the physical body sitting here reading this. There is absolute truth in the saying: "You are not a human being having a spiritual experience. You are a spiritual being having a human experience" (principle #1).

At a purely spiritual level the Soul has access to unlimited potentials and achievements. Yet, there are some things the Soul cannot or easily achieve in that particular realm. Concepts that require it to "go physical" by incarnating into a human body for just a short while.

Everything you experience is for the ultimate benefit of your Soul (principle #2).

SPIRITUAL LEVEL:
Before it incarnates, your Soul sets up a "wish list" of tasks / experiences / lessons it wants you to work through. It then selects the forthcoming parents, time, place, and all the myriad conditions necessary for you to succeed. Even your name is something your Soul chose before coming in to this lifetime. Only when all the conditions are correct will the Soul incarnate and go physical.

Becoming a human being is a tremendous opportunity for your Soul - highly valued and not to be wasted.

At the moment of conception the new human-to-be is pure love - absolute perfection - in every sense. The only thing it brings with it is "hand luggage". Housed within this hand luggage is a blueprint (a.k.a. "Life's Purpose") containing possibilities but never outcomes. Possibilities that include all the intentions, hopes, aspirations, weaknesses, strengths, skills and desires etc needed for this lifetime.

Also at the moment of conception, part of the Soul becomes bonded to the physical and instantly creates a brand new human being in his / her own right. From that moment onwards, the Soul sets up situations and events whereby this Life's Purpose is enacted. However, a blueprint is nothing more than a list of words and ideas - it has to separately manifest action - which requires the emotions.

EMOTIONAL LEVEL:
Suppose you have come into this lifetime with trust as one of your objectives - your Soul wants to learn everything there is about trust - to trust everyone, and to have them always trust in return. So a lifetime is created whereby this is indeed the case.
When your life is over, you may have known only trust, but what have you actually learnt about it? Absolutely nothing! Agreed? And that's because you had nothing to compare it against. Obviously, this approach isn't going to work, no matter what the intended experience.

The answer to this dilemma is deceptively simple - whatever the desired experience, the Soul creates the exact opposite situation (principle #3). Thus, if the Soul wishes to learn about trust, it will set up a condition whereby "I feel betrayed" (or similar). Here is an example to demonstrate this idea:

Roy had just started school. At first his mother escorted him to and from school to make sure he knew the way and felt comfortable about the procedure. One day she changed the routine and let him go alone. On leaving school at the end of the day he discovered it was now raining heavily. What's more, he had no raincoat (Mum always carried that) and got drenched heading home. Naturally, he was quite upset and felt betrayed by her. From that time onwards he could never trust her as thoroughly as he did before the incident. We will re-visit Roy a little later.

So far, we have looked at the boxes labeled SOUL, SPIRITUAL and EMOTIONAL and showed how they are linked. Feelings are one step closer to action, but feelings are just that - feelings. We just feel angry, sad (or whatever). At a purely emotional level we wallow in our feelings without doing anything more. So yet another step towards action is required. Taking the process a step further we introduce the MENTAL element.

MENTAL LEVEL:
Up until the age of about seven, children make no distinction between thought (mind) and feelings (emotion). Everything is simply rolled into one. Thus, a perceived threat is just as real as if it actually happened. This condition is constantly played out in courtrooms around the world with cases of child molestation. When (now) adults sue over events they say took place to the (then) child there is a risk that they have fallen prey to "FALSE MEMORY SYNDROME". Sure, they recall the event - blow by blow, word for word, and the recall is absolutely true for them. But events may not have actually taken place that way even though their mind is clear on the subject.

This is how I view False Memory: "It makes no difference whether it did or didn't happen. What does matter is what you believed took place". In other words - the mind can play tricks and is not to be trusted. The mind (what we think) is driven by the emotions. Action is the keyword here. Our emotions are our driving force - the perfect manifestation of Life's Purpose. In one hit we affect both the emotional and mental elements (principle #4).

Thus, with action possible at long last we progress another step along this path towards pain. Now, let's look at the energetic element (not part of diagram).

ENERGETIC LEVEL:
Unresolved feelings from any incident during those first few years could easily create energy forms (representing the fear) which are then stored somewhere within the individual's subtle energy field. Eventually, they will probably end up sitting right over a chakra (energy centre). This action serves three main purposes: By sitting directly on a chakra, an energy form draws additional energy from that chakra to make it bigger and stronger i.e. a parasite. Energy sucked from the chakra helps keep it "alive". Secondly, it "blocks" the natural flow of energy in and out of that chakra. This energy blockage eventually affects the health of the organs governed by and connected to that chakra (an important point!). Thirdly, it draws attention to itself and "drives" your emotions even harder. Therefore, these energy forms (e.g. anger, fear of dogs, love hurts etc) simultaneously affect your emotions, mind and body.

There is no such thing as "good energy" or "bad energy". Energy is just that - energy. However, it may carry a particular flavor. Just there are different types of soft drink, juices etc they all share a common ingredient - water. With these energy forms the water is the energy (neutral) and the flavor represents the emotion (anger, sadness etc). As with drink, you can have a small energy form high in flavor - or vice versa.

They exist, because YOUR SOUL intended them to be there.

Thus, we come to bodily dys-function ...and physical pain.

PHYSICAL LEVEL:
Now we consider the impact on the next stage i.e. the body itself.

What is perceived as physical pain, dis-ease, illness etc is just the end result of this long chain originating from your Soul. Weird as it seems, your Soul actually allows (wants?) you to experience pain, because it knows you are now forced into taking action. And there's absolutely no reason to prevent the Soul raising the ante this high, if that is what it takes. And so, physical pain is felt, the quality of life is reduced and misery ultimately sets in.

It is also true that your Soul would rather not have you struck down with debilitating pain. It wants you to be happy, healthy and enjoying life, and if you can achieve the necessary learnings this way, so be it. But we don't tend to learn as easily when things are going smoothly (below: see number 4 of the Ten Rules for being human). That is when the going gets tough.

TO SUMMARIZE (so far):
As you can see, there is a one way straight line path from the Soul to the physical body: Soul wishes to experience something, so it sets up a blueprint called "Life's Purpose". This is achieved at a SPIRITUAL level. It then enacts the blueprint through the EMOTIONS. The MIND is driven by the emotions (not the other way around, as many would have you believe). The MIND then drives the physical body into creating dys-function / pain etc. All these stages are necessary so that intentions can be turned into action. Whew!

EASY / HARD ASPECT:
At every stage in this process there is a direct feedback path to the Soul. If the Soul learns the intended lesson while it is still at the blueprint (spiritual) stage, then that particular mission is accomplished. Tick! Well done! But if not, then it takes the next step - and a tad more difficult to accomplish. So it sets up feelings - fear, hurt, anger, anxieties, grief, etc. And if it learns at that level, the process need not be taken any further. Tick! But suppose it still hasn't achieved the desired result at the emotional level, what next?

The next stage is to "tweak" the mind. We may be driven by our emotions, but it is the mind that ultimately makes things happen. At one level the ego mind drives us. It makes us take risks; to push us out of our comfort zone (e.g. the adrenalin junkie). At a deeper level the mind has absolute control over the body and how it functions.

At a mental level the mind creates die-ease, simply because that is what it is told to do (principle #5). A blocked chakra just makes it easier for the dys-function to manifest. Some people go "crazy", others sink into "schizophrenia", and a few take on "distractions" such as "addictions" or "workaholicism" etc. Scary stuff, huh! If we learn at this stage, hooray Tick! If not...

And so the poor ol' physical body cops the lot. It does so because the owner effectively ignored the message while it was easy (i.e. at the spiritual level), ignored it at the emotional level (it hurts, so let's lock and block and hide it away), ignored it at the mental level (it's just an "attitude"), until the owner is forced to deal with it at the physical level. After all, there is nothing quite like pain to keep one's attention fixed on the problem. Now it has become a very hard lesson. By the way, deciding not to take action over some aspect of your life involves actually taking action. Again, FREE WILL is at work. So what is described as ignoring, also includes denying, sidestepping and procrastination considerations, among many others.

MENTAL ILLNESS:
As an aside, when you understand the process more fully, you may wish to consider this - society still has difficulty comprehending the holistic view of life. Most (if not, all) so-called "mental illness" is nothing more than this Path at work, doing precisely what it is designed to do. The so-called "mentally ill" have probably locked and blocked and stuffed deep within themselves their emotional hurts and fears to the point that it is the mind alone that is perceived to be the culprit. Certainly, those who assess patients may see it this way. People label it "mental illness" - for want of a better term. Yet, once the emotional issues are dealt with and released - best achieved directly at the emotional level, by the way - then there is not likely to be any mental illness. This process happens automatically.

An interesting statistic - here in NZ an oft played television commercial for mental health awareness quotes "one in five people" have (or had) mental illness. Yet the many people shown in that commercial are precisely and accurately demonstrating this Path at work. Perhaps they are just being more honest than the rest of humanity.

It is actually easiest to address the emotional issues at the emotional level, than try to fix things at either the mental or physical levels (principle #6). To enter at either the mental or physical level means that processing has to run past the SOUL and SPIRITUAL levels before it reaches the EMOTIONAL level where the changes takes place.

DEATH LEVEL:
Which brings us to the final box (in all regards). For many people, the desired experience sought by the Soul only takes place upon the point of death. It may have taken a whole lifetime of preparation to reach that ultimate point of no return. Cancer is a good example. Left untreated, cancer is always terminal. Huge learnings are possible as the afflicted person chooses to accept the condition, or fight it (FREE WILL). One of the special i.e. positive qualities of cancer is that it always takes time to do its job. All through this final stage of life, much "Soul searching" (quite literally) takes place as the person prepares to depart this life. Sufficient time is often provided to fight the cancer. Whether it is "cured" or not hinges on many factors.

In the case of sudden death (heart attacks, car crashes, etc) there are different opportunities presented. There may only be scant seconds or precious moments between life and death. It just may be that sufficient understandings are also possible at this time. Perhaps those understandings had already taken place. We simply cannot say.

How many people you have known died peacefully in their sleep, of old age and with all their faculties intact? Not many, do I hear you say? And that would be right. Those same energy forms that are the childhood manifestation of fear, become issues that we either deal with, (i.e. resolve) or we will die by them! (principle #7) There are exceptions, but they are few and far between. When you think about it, there are thousands upon thousands of unique ways to die - a point well understood by your Soul.

FREE WILL:
Thus, we have now traversed the entire chain. And as we have seen, the Soul desires a human experience. But it may have a long list of objectives which only it knows about. Your Soul has deliberately kept hidden from (physical) you the contents of this list. The reason is obvious - to give you FREE WILL to choose responses. Without choice, life would be meaningless.

In other words, you may be powerless to choose what happens to you, but you do have the power to choose how you react. It is in the reaction that you learn. (principle #8)

COMPUTER ANALOGY:
Another way to view the Path is to liken it to a computer. The mental and physical bodies are (collectively) the "hardware" - chips, keyboards, connectors etc. At conception, the hardware is effectively all there - it just needs software and power (energy) to make it function. The emotional body is the RAM (random access memory) and the spiritual body is the ROM (read only memory). At that moment of conception, the RAM is empty / transparent; the ROM has all the driving instructions necessary (in addition to Life's Purpose) for creating a perfect body i.e. perfect for what the Soul needs it for. Built into the programming are a myriad defects (software bugs), weaknesses and strengths. Plus, heaps of other parameters beyond the scope of this document.

THOUGHT ALWAYS PRECEDES FEELINGS. Yet, that statement seems at odds with the diagram, which clearly shows the opposite. Because the RAM is initially empty, a thought such as "I don't like this..." is first created in the mind. The thought then passes directly to the Soul. Soul says "Great, exactly what I need". So it continues to the Life's Purpose which checks according to its programming the thought. If appropriate, it sends the message straight on to the emotions, where it is immediately felt as a feeling (fear). And with that experience the RAM is now starting to fill up. This action may all take place in a split second! As the RAM fills with fear, it then "tweaks" the mind. The greater the strength and / or larger the quantity of feelings, the stronger the impact. Because the ROM and hardware are both "fixed" qualities, it is the emotions that hold the key to the meaning and purpose of life! (principle #9)

PAIN AT ALL LEVELS:
What is felt as physical pain is only one of many ways that pain can be experienced. Pain exists at all levels, as can be seen here:

KNEE PROBLEMS. This condition affects a huge number of people. Stiff, sore, inflexible joints that seem to get worse with age.
At a physical level, the knees are tied in with our ability to move forward with ease; to provide flexibility in the way we hold ourselves upright, and to help us reach our destination. Pain and dis-ability slow down or provide serious obstacles to our movement. Physical pain also significantly affects our quality of life.
At the mental level, our mind drives us to go forward and achieve what we think is necessary or important to do. Mental pain occurs as we become frustrated at the slowness or immobility of problematic knees. Worry, "numbing out", lack of motivation, etc are likely outcomes at this level.
At an emotional level, we feel we cannot achieve our happiness or goals and may become despondent. Anger, grief, anxieties, etc set in through our inability to move forward with ease.
At the spiritual level, pain exists as we (seemingly) lose our ability to "get on with life". Our overall quality of life is lessened, which then throws up powerful questions such as: "what's the use of going on"? etc. Deep, spiritual questions about the exact meaning and purpose of life.

THE SOUL CONNECTION:
One aspect of this Path I was originally unprepared for was the level of involvement between the Soul and the physical person. Previously, I used to think that the Soul was just an observer - setting up situations and then waiting for your response, hee hee! As you learnt, it learnt. What I see now is a totally 100% involvement by the Soul.

Your Soul is involved at all levels - it is instantly (and continuously) aware of your mental processes, your physical pain(s), your emotional state and what is happening spiritually within yourself. Everything that you consider to be "you" is simultaneously experienced by your Soul. Not only that, but the feedback path also ensures it has a say in what goes on. Through the feedback path everything that takes place in the "you" is also run past your Soul. Decisions it makes (with or without your permission) affect the "you", which causes you to "react". And this sets in motion the "lessons".

Without FREE WILL, you would be nothing more than a puppet on a string, with your Soul calling all the tunes. Having FREE WILL, you dance whatever tune you like, never mind what your Soul arranges. Always, there is feedback to your Soul - it is the ultimate "interactive game".

LOOKING BACK INTO CHILDHOOD:
Early childhood has a dual role. One aspect involves the physical act of growth. That is very well understood and documented. The other aspect is this business of creating energy blockages (the manifestation of fear). I call that second aspect the "picking up the tab" stage. In Roy's story we saw how a single incident upset him.

As a result of not processing his feelings adequately at the time he created an issue of betrayal. If that item was not included in the "wish list", it would not have stuck. But it was in his wish list, and he has successfully created an "issue" - one that will continue to plague him for the rest of his life, unless he comes to terms with it somehow.

As an adult he now has a huge issue with trust - particularly those in "respected" positions. Even though he doesn't understand the "rules" he is struggling to come to terms with his issue through his work as a school counselor. Every day he sees kids just like him. Whenever he helps a child sort out their issues, in some small way he is coming to terms with his own.

Childhood can be a wonderful experience, or one of extreme trauma. Look what is currently happening in the Middle East, central Africa and countless other "hotspots" around the world. Look too, at the privileged children with loving parents and material wealth in wealthy / stable countries. Yet, it just might be that a child growing up in a "hotspot" is happier than the child surrounded by possessions.

Think back into your own childhood. As an exercise, make two lists: one containing details of happy events, and the other list containing memories of misery. Include as much or as little information as you choose. When you have finished, study both lists. What feelings were aroused?

Here is a powerful clue to understanding the process - whatever event (happy or miserable) stands out clearly, will have an emotion attached to it - guaranteed! (principle #10). The greater the level of recall or clarity, the stronger the emotion.

Putting aside the happy memories, take a hard look at the "misery" list, for that is the only one that counts in this exercise. What feelings came to the surface? Feelings of anger (frustration, rage, hate, disgust, etc), grief (sadness, melancholy, tears, etc) and anxiety (depression, nervousness, cold sweat, etc) perhaps? Bingo! You have started to discover part of your Life's Purpose.

DISCOVERING LIFE's PURPOSE:
Your Life's Purpose is a blueprint created by your Soul for your benefit. Yet, it is usually difficult (but not impossible) to access. Why? Because, to actively know your Life's Purpose could interfere with your FREE WILL.

Yet you can glimpse some aspects of your Life's Purpose - but only as it applies to this moment in time. Tomorrow it could be entirely different (e.g. you have a car crash and suddenly your life is turned upside down).

Ask yourself these three questions - be as honest as you can:
1) What am I passionate about?
2) What do I most want to achieve, yet have great difficulty doing so?
3) What do I most fear?

Within your answers will be a sense of Life's Purpose. A summary at the bottom of this primer may add even more insights. Keep reading.

RESOLUTION AT THE MENTAL LEVEL:
As part of my own journey of personal development I studied many things, including affirmations and self-hypnosis, to name but two mental techniques. The conclusions (for me) were always the same:

* To resolve problems at the mental level was like trying to flatten a mountain with a toothpick - you will get there eventually. One client told me he got more benefit from one MM* session than 25 years of hypnotherapy.

* The ego mind kept interfering. The sole purpose of the ego is to "protect" us - to prove that "I" am right and "you" are wrong. Therefore, any activity that threatens the ego is fought very vigorously. This is a war where two aspects of yourself are fighting each other. The ultimate "lose - lose" situation.

* The problems are not at that level - only their manifestation.

* Some people successfully find their answers through accessing the mental level. Therefore, this approach has validity, but is not for me.

Following through with the computer analogy, the mind is like the keyboard, monitor, chips and components etc. All you can do to improve the hardware of a real computer is: put in a faster "processor", expand the memory and add on extra "peripherals" like joystick, modem etc. But it is the software (RAM and ROM) that really defines what the computer does.

EXPANDING THE CONCEPT:
This concept is not just about humans as individuals, it can be expanded to include the family unit, the local community (your neighborhood), the larger community (whole city), the whole country, Planet Earth.

Each group has its own agenda to work through. Conditions exist that are totally unique to that group. For instance, what issues exist for your family that are unique to the family but not part of the individuals within that group? This is a concept that would make a wonderful project for someone, whether in the junior classroom or at PhD level.

The issues of Christchurch are totally different to those of Wellington, even though they are only a few hundred kilometers apart and about the same size. For example, Christchurch is flat and compact, Wellington is hilly, spread out and surrounds a harbor. Their public transport arrangements are quite different. To list all the issues would fill an entire volume, so we will conclude with a simple exercise - collect two similar newspapers from different regions and compare them. What are the local issues? What wider issues affect both regions? Have a play (a school project, perhaps?).

THE MEANING OF LIFE:
By now, you should have a fairly good idea on what life is about. This document only aims to understand it holistically, but not delve into the really deep stuff (yes, there are even deeper levels of understanding).

If you are familiar with "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" you will know that "42" is the meaning of life. A friend of mine has this definition instead: "perhaps the meaning of life is to find the meaning of life". He just might be right. Who knows?
What you experience in this life is the totality of everything you have experienced in all your previous lifetimes. What you will experience in future lifetimes is absolutely dependent on what you are currently experiencing. Suffice to say that each lifetime is a complete chapter in a very long novel.

As an example, I will describe an issue I recently released, showing how it deeply affected me, and also show its origin.

All my life I have had (relatively minor) problems with the acquisition of money. Working steadily for year after year I amassed enough capital to own freehold a house, car and to live a reasonably comfortable life. But I was also aware of a program running around my mind that said "I may never be rich, but I will always have enough". Sure enough, that is what my life manifested.

In January 2000 I set myself up for Self-Employment, thinking that I would continue this pattern (of having enough). Not so! In the space of two short years I had all manner of financial issues come up. At almost exactly six monthly intervals I worked through (specifically): abundance, self-worth, competition and fear of success. Only when the last of the four was released in early 2002 did I complete the picture and gain insight to the actual issue - that of PROSPERITY. I then struggled financially for another three years as one issue after another related to money kept hitting me.

I discovered that each of those issues was complete in its own right; each had its origin as an unresolved childhood issue. The source was found in each case and always related to a different specific event. Collectively, they sabotaged my right to prosperity. Now they are all gone but the experience has left me broke. It also left me with a whole new way of appreciating myself and my possessions - and of money itself.

I do not need a fancy car, palace or extensive home theatre. A few years ago, that was my dream, as the prosperity issue really started to bite. Now I am quite happy to keep possessions to a minimum. "Seachange" is the latest buzzword to describe how I feel now. Another word also applicable is "downshifting". Sort of like the husband in the movie: "American Beauty", but with a totally different ending.

The origin of the prosperity issue was found in two lifetimes around 2,500 and 2,200 years ago in Egypt / Middle East.

Past lives play an integral part of the process. Everything on your wish list is based on ALL the unresolved issues from your past lives. It seems that the only way we tend to learn is through pain.

That is how I interpret the meaning of life.

CONCLUSION:
This document is intentionally long (nearly 6,000 words). And yet it is far from complete. My full length book (71,000 words): "The Path from Soul to Pain" explores this concept in far greater detail.

Life is complex, no doubt about that. To fully understand life is a mind bogglingly daunting task and all I have attempted to portray here is one man's view. As such, it may have inconsistencies and errors written all over it. Or perhaps I just might have stumbled onto one of the greatest secrets of all time.

I do not know which of those two categories this work belongs. That is for others to determine. All I know is that it makes sense to me, and I am happy to put my name to it. If you are of the opinion there is indeed truth written here, then I am pleased for you. And if you find it exciting, then please spread the word. NOTE: This document is copyrighted, but you are welcome to spread the concept to as many people as will listen. Better still - buy the book when it comes out.

Life's Purpose (summary)

You came into this lifetime to resolve, learn or experience something. That "something" revolves around the previous abuse of:

From that, you created a dense of Life's Purpose - a "wish list" of objectives and goals for this lifetime. Each item can be considered a "lesson". They are there because YOU placed them there.

You express your Life's Purpose as a series of programs. Each program is complete in itself and runs concurrently with all others. Each program has a unique "bottom line", which is the exact opposite of that which you aim to achieve. You either: Deal With, Or will Die (D.W.O.D's) by these issues - such is their impact on your health.

Each D.W.O.D. issue manifests an array of feelings. These feelings can be headed:

Only when an issue has been cleanly released is it possible to look back and say: "Now I understand what it was about" i.e. "I have learned the lesson".

That is how you fulfill your Life's Purpose. Every person on this planet is likewise fulfilling their Life's Purpose. You are not alone!

The Ten Rules for being Human

When you were born, you didn't come with an owners manual; you have had to learn the rules the hard way. These rules are intended to help make your life easier.

1) You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it but it is yours for the entire period this time around. You have chosen its shape on a deeper level; you can change it.

2) You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called life on planet earth. Each day in this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons, or think them irrelevant.

3) There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of experimentation - trial and error. The so-called failed experiments are just as much a part of the process as the experiment that ultimately 'works'.

4) A lesson is repeated until learned. It will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you've learned it, you can then go on to the next lessons. If you don't learn easy lessons, they become harder. You will know you've learned a lesson when your actions change.

5) Learning lessons does not end. There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. Every person, every incident is the universal teacher. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.

6) 'There' is no better than 'here'. Nothing leads to happiness. When your 'there' has become a 'here' you will simply obtain another 'there' that looks better than 'here'.

7) Others are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate in yourself.

8) What you create of your life is up to you. Life is like a movie: you may feel like a bit player, but you have the power to become screen writer, casting director, producer and director. It's your movie. You have all the tools and resources you need; what you do with them is up to you. There are three kinds of people - those who make things happen, those who watch what happened and those who wonder what happened. Notice that you do have the courage; take charge of your life. If you don't, someone else will.

9) Your answers lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen and trust. Then you'll realize that you are the spiritual being you've been seeking.

10) You will tend to forget all this.

Ten Rules author: Dr Cherie Carter-Scott

Just as an aside, Rule number eight really has FOUR types of people. There are also those who never noticed anything happening (most people fit into this group).
